Faurecia Introduces Fossil Fuel-Free Steel...Toward Development of Ultra-Low CO2 Emission Seat Structure

Faurecia announced on September 7 that it has formed a partnership with Swedish steelmaker SSAB to use high-strength, fossil fuel-free steel for its seating business.

Faurecia introduces fossil-free steel …Development of seat structure with ultra-low CO2 emissions

This partnership will make Faurecia the world's first automotive supplier to work with SSAB to introduce fossil fuel-free steel.

At the end of 2019, Faurecia created a roadmap to achieve CO2 neutrality for production site emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 2025 and halve Scope 3 emissions by 2030. This partnership is a major step forward in Faurecia's journey to CO2 neutrality.

Faurecia has secured fossil fuel-free steel from SSAB for use in seat structures from 2026. Fossil-free steel uses hydrogen and zero-carbon electricity instead of coking coal and other fossil fuels traditionally used in steel production. Under this partnership, Faurecia will develop, test, demonstrate and industrialize seat structures with the lowest possible CO2 emissions.
