Adam Scott scored a good score with his new putter

Adam Scott ran up the leaderboard on the Riviera CC with a new putter. Two years ago, the "Genesis Invitation" champion marked "68" and "65" in the qualifying round and returned in 3rd place, and on the final day when he came out in 10th place, he turned to "66" and finished in 4th place.

For the first two days, he gained about four strokes on the green and finished fourth in the field with the same stats.

Unlike other leaderboard folks, Scott doesn't use traditional length putters or putting styles. Instead of traditionally hanging his arms in front of his body, he holds his left hand on his sternum and holds an elongated putter like a broom.

Scott has been playing the same Scotty Cameron in his bag for several years now, but before the "WM Phoenix Open" he switched to LAB Golf's "MEZZ.1 PROTO" putter.

LAB stands for "Rye Angle Balance" and is a craft putter designed to reduce torque and twist during stroke. Scott has tried the Directed Force head shape that the company originally made in the past, but the newly developed MEZZ.1 PROTO seems to have a more preferred look.

"I've been trying their putters since 2019, and I've been using a short version of the original design on tour for a few weeks, but I like the technology," Scott told the media after the round. "They designed a new shape head, which I find more attractive than the old one, and it has better performance. That's why I use it, and I really like it."

The shape of the putter's wings has the effect of increasing forgiveness throughout the face, and the sole is fitted with 20 weights, adjusted to the appropriate weight for Scott's long putter.

"The concept is in a well-balanced lie angle," Scott explained. "I'm not smart enough to explain the physics of this, but it's very easy to swing."

Since most golfers swing the putter along several arcs, the LAB lie angle balance design ensures that the putter face is square to the arc. Compared to conventional putters, the face is less twisted, which in theory greatly increases consistency and stability.

So far, this tech and putter change seems to be working well.
